In Canada, the national anti-doping agency is the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sports (CCES; one thing about the Olympics, if you like acronyms, this is the organization for you).
An offspring of the Ben Johnson scandal, the CCES is a fact in the daily lives of Canadian athletes and they take their work seriously. For starters, they supervise the whereabouts program — ADAMS — which became more stringent since January 2009. As mentioned, athletes have to account for their whereabouts three months in advance and provide a daily one-hour guarantee of where they’ll be. Failure to comply leads to a strike. Three strikes over an 18-month period can lead to a minimum suspension of one year and a maximum of two years." |

The NYAL has changed it's structure, and not all are happy. For example the Southern Premier used to consist of 16 teams who competed as 4 teams per match with 5 Matches per season and the top 5 went to either Final. This year changes to Southern Premier means Division divided into East and West - 9 teams in each division. Now 3 teams at a Match and 4 matches per season. However each match a double header, so equals SIX TEAMS. But Southern Premier and Div 1 will be double headers- so 6 clubs and 6 age groups at any one meet. That will be a long day. Top 4 in the Southern premier will have a regional final-Match 5. Top 2 teams will go to National finals- and Auxilary places to next 2 teams and then a final place to highest scoring 5th team.

Kelvin Hall s a strange arena-that is a fact. Fast 60m track, and a horrible 200m track, steep bends, with a bump coming off the home bend-long bends short straight. Those are as I recall.
Jessica Ennis was in fine form-well amazing- and is she does not break the Women's Multi-Event WR soonish I will be staggered- I think everyone agrees now that as long as she stays injury free it's a cert. Shame she will not be competing at Commonwealth Games-she would probably win the 100mH as an individual, let alone the Multi-Events.
As usual the BBC commenatators (biased as always to longer distances) got it wrong-Lisa Dobriskey was beaten, and to me it seemed obvious 200m out she was going to struggle. She smiled, but I hope it hurt, because at her level winning at this sort of event should have been a dead cert-to be world class you have to win against what was not really a tough field.
Leon Baptiste ran well- a difficult track on the one lap, and he will blossom. Shame no 200m in the World Indoors. Bernice Wilson ran well to come 2nd, new name to me over the 60m, but might struggle against other female GB athlete's at another venue- though 7.37 was good. Helen Pryer over 24.62- nothing to get excited about I am afraid- but looking at the Power of 10 ranks for Women 200m, not much there yet-only one GB athletes has broken 24.00 so far, the very consistent Joyce Maduka.
Tomlinson won-but failed to break 8.0m. He looks more agressive though, a touch of the Andy Murray's coming in. He probably needs it, much as i dislike that sort of thing.
At least 3 athletes said they felt out of sorts-I am increasingly sure the biodynamic-.the moon phase thing, is worth looking into . |
